1. Introduction

(What – Where – How – Who)

En inglés usamos question words (palabras de pregunta) para pedir información.

Veremos cuatro preguntas muy comunes y las respuestas típicas a esas preguntas.

  • What = Qué / Cuál
  • Where = Dónde
  • How = Cómo
  • Who = Quién

2. Simple question pattern

Formula básica

[Wh- word] + [Verbo to be (am/is/are)] + [Sujeto] + ?

Ejemplos:

  • Where is Maria?
  • What is your name?
  • Where do you live?
  • How are you?
  • Who is she?

3. Easy rule:

What → things
Where → places
How → condition or manner
Who → people

WHAT = ¿Qué? / ¿Cuál?

Structure

Usamos What para preguntar por cosas, información o identidad.

Examples

What is your name?
¿Cuál es tu nombre?

Answer:
My name is John.

What is this?
¿Qué es esto?

Answer:
It is a book.

What do you do?
¿A qué te dedicas?

Answer:
I am a teacher.

 

What does library mean in Spanish?
¿Cómo se dice library en español?

Answer:
It means biblioteca in Spanish.

WHERE = ¿Dónde?

Structure

Usamos Where para preguntar por lugares o ubicación.

Examples

Where do you live?
¿Dónde vives?

Answer:
I live in Paraguay.

Where is the school?
¿Dónde está la escuela?

Answer:
It is on Main Street.

Where are you from?
¿De dónde eres?

Answer:
I am from Paraguay.

HOW = ¿Cómo?

Usamos How para preguntar sobre estado, forma o manera.

How are you?
¿Cómo estás?

Answer:
I’m fine, thank you.

How do you go to school?
¿Cómo vas a la escuela?

Answer:
I go by bus.

How old are you?
¿Cuántos años tienes?

Answer:
I am 12 years old.

How do you say lápiz in English?
¿Cómo se dice lápiz en inglés?

Answer:
We say pencil in English.

 

WHO = ¿Quién?

Usamos Who para preguntar sobre personas.

Who is she?
¿Quién es ella?

Answer:
She is my sister.

Who is your teacher?
¿Quién es tu profesor?

Answer:
Mr. Smith is my teacher.

Who is that man?
¿Quién es ese hombre?

Answer:
He is my father.
