1. Golden Rules

Before learning the words, remember two critical differences between English and Spanish:

  1. Capital Letters are Mandatory: In Spanish, days and months use lowercase (lunes, marzo). In English, they always start with a capital letter:

    • Correct: Monday, March

    • Incorrect: monday, march

  2. The Correct Preposition:

    • Use ON for days and specific dates: I have class on Monday. / My birthday is on July 4th.

    • Use IN for months alone: Halloween is in October.

    • (Avoid saying "the Monday" or "in Monday" — Spanish speakers often translate "el lunes" literally).

  3. In the United States, calendars typically start the week on Sunday.

  4. Tuesday vs. Thursday

    • Tuesday starts with a clean T: "TOOZ-day".

    • Thursday starts with the tongue between the teeth TH: "THURZ-day".

2. Very Important!

Cuando veas una fecha escrita de esta forma en un texto en inglés americano de USA: 12/07/2026, la primera cifra corresponde al MES, la segunda al DÍA y la tercera al AÑO. O sea, esa fecha corresponde a December 7, 2026, NO a July 12, 2026. Ej: 04/09/2020 es April 9, 2020. En cambio, si la fuente está en inglés británico, se interpreta como en español. Ej: en inglés británico, 08/03/2022 es 8 de marzo de 2022.

Formas de armar las fechas

Pattern Rule Example Spanish Translation
ON + Day Use on for days of the week I work on Mondays. Trabajo los lunes.
ON + Date Use on for specific calendar dates The party is on October 31st. La fiesta es el 31 de octubre.
IN + Month Use in when mentioning only the month My birthday is in August. Mi cumpleaños es en agosto.
EVERY + Day Singular day, no preposition We play soccer every Saturday. Jugamos fútbol todos los sábados.

Warning for Spanish Speakers: Never say "The meeting is the Tuesday" or "The party is in Friday". Always use on: "The meeting is on Tuesday."
